We’re already getting into the Christmas spirit around here. In fact, there are Christmas carols playing as we write this! And we’re excited to tell you all about this fun Holiday Classroom Community Challenge (we’ll be starting it right after we finish this fun writing activity!).
We created a Christmas Community Challenge (a Winter themed one as well!) to do with our students on the twenty-five days leading up to Christmas Break.
Think of it kind of like an Advent Calendar, but with fun activities as opposed to little pieces of chocolate 🙂 We created a schedule of fun and/or thoughtful Christmas activities sure to engage all our students and compiled them into a festive calendar.
Each day, we will read off the particular challenge and work together to accomplish it.
We can’t wait to see how excited our students will be when they see this countdown hanging in the classroom, and we hint at all the fun they will have over the coming month! We like to put post it’s over all the days, and only read off the particular challenge for that day to keep up the anticipation (just like we do on our Classroom Community Challenge – which can be used anytime throughout the year).
Here’s some of our favorites challenges:
- Pretend you are Santa’s elves. Brainstorm something nice you can do for members of the school community. Work out a plan to make it happen.
- Go caroling. Visit another classroom or two and sing the song you’ve been practicing.
- Time for some reindeer games. Play a few rounds of Christmas Hangman, have a tic-tac-toe tournament, and divide into teams for some holiday-themed Pictionary. Bonus points for clever Christmas-related team names!
We like to do a community challenge around the holidays to really bring home the idea that we are a school family, creating lifelong memories with one another.
Check out our resource here if you want to take on the Christmas Community Challenge in your own classroom. In addition to our own ideas, we’ve included a completely editable template for you to add in your own activities.
P.S. How fun would it be to have multiple classrooms do the challenge at the same time? We bet the school will be filled with Christmas spirit in no time!
